Default SOLD: 1906 New York Highlanders (Yankees) Score Card / Program

Superb graphics on the front cover and a Hall of Fame pitching matchup are the highlights of this extremely scarce and early New York Highlanders (Yankees) vs. Chicago White Sox score card / program. See below for game details.

The front and back covers are cleanly separated, while all other pages are intact. I would think this could be easily repaired, if desired. One interior page has a 1 inch tear, otherwise very good condition. Neatly written on the front cover is the date and final score. The entire game is scored on the centerfold pages. There are 12 pages total (including front and back covers). The other pages have great advertisements of the day, including the Christy Mathewson and Roger Bresnahan endorsement pictured below.

I consider myself a pretty good researcher, but I have been unable to find record of a 1906 NY Highlanders score card sale. I have checked the major auction houses, Prices Realized, WorthPoint, and Googled (if anyone finds one, please let me know!). Knowing the scarcity of early score cards in general, this leads me to believe a 1906 Highlanders is extremely scarce. Add to that the very attractive graphics on the cover and two HOF pitchers going at it in a great game, I think this is a tremendous item.

Game Information:
On July 14, 1906, the Highlanders were in a tie for 1st place in the American League with the Philadelphia Athletics. They ran HOFer Jack Chesbro out to the mound at Hilltop Park. The White Sox countered with Nick Altrock, but he was quickly replaced in the 2nd inning with HOFer Ed Walsh who went the distance in what would become a wild, high scoring game.

In addition to Chesbro, Willie Keeler and Hal Chase were in the lineup for the Highlanders.

The headline in the next day’s Chicago Tribune read: “SOX LOSE IN GREAT GAME - Highlanders Score Victory in Ripping Finish, 9 to 8.”

The newspaper included these awesome descriptions:
“...a ninth inning outburst of scoring that brought the viewing concourse to multitudinous feet in excitement.”

“It was a slashing, stubborn, ripping, tearing game, that was replete with hitting and run getting and sharp fielding, and not without errors to complicate the situation. First one team, then the other swung into the lead, and the finale was the liveliest of all. It was blow for blow throughout the final round, in which Chicago took the lead in the first half and New York made the winning runs in the second half. No team ever put up a gamer battle to win than did the Highlanders.”

Default Score Card

Here is the scoring of the game. Sorry, the only way I can get it to upload is as two photos, but the scorecard takes up the entire centerfold and is in one piece.
