Default assistance with Highlander ID

I am trying to figure out exactly whom the Highlander runner is in his famous T202 Middle panel of Jake Stahl. It resembles a few players like Ray Demmitt and Earl Gardner but I cant for the life of me tell whom it is. Hoping someone might have a period paper that mentions it or has a better idea. Thanks!

I'm going with Earl Gardner. The photo on the right is Gardner from 1908 and I reversed the photo to match the 1st photo.
Just my opinion on the player.

I would disagree. Gardner's nose curves inward like a ski slope. The runner in the photo has a nose that curves out, much like a one that had been broken at one point.

Thank you Scott. I also just noticed that the runner has what looks like a cauliflower ear. Perhaps he boxed in the off-season
