Default One for the books!

My (rather inexpensive, and very small, wrapped to the max) item from REA arrived today, Thursday, 2 day express, Fed Ex.

There's nothing unusual about that except I sent my money order late yesterday afternoon, overnight express (guarenteed delivery by Friday noon). There is NO MISTAKE: The money wasn't even in my account till yesterday morning, I just checked to make sure.

There is NO WAY they could have gotten my money before they sent my package...

Er,...wow.

I got my package this morning. Rob always makes a special effort to get packages out quickly. One of the many ways in which he goes the extra mile. Thank you.

I can't speak to REA, but I know Lew Lipset has sent me several items before I even mailed my check.

or Prestigecollectibles, because I KNOW those people, but I'd never bid in an REA auction before.

And I'm NOT asking for before-the-cheeck service from any of the people I mentioned!

Actually, Gary Engel (Prestige Collectibles, Japanese cards) once sold a card for me (with no consignor's fee), and as soon as he had a buyer, advanced me the money--but that was obviouly the act of a friend, not an auction house or a seller.

And Terry Knouse sometimes sends cards out on spec, and if you like them, you send him the dough, and if you don't you return the card..

To which Robert Lifson replied:

"You're welcome! We understand you hardly ever stiff auction houses. We put all your information in a big computer, and decided you were a pretty good risk.

I had a nice visit with him at the National and ended up buying a Sadaharu Oh card for my collection. I'm not into Japanese baseball, but had always wanted a nice Oh card and he patiently steered me through the various issues until I found one I liked aesthetically and intellectually.
