I have grown tired of PSA bashing threads, but it seems that a credibility problem exists in our hobby which is not going away on its own.

I came acxross the following, which was new information to me, in a eBay auction (#52100116428) and thought Id share this with you:

The International Autograph Collectors Club and Dealers Alliance (IACC/DA) has held a recent board meeting. On the table for discussion was should the 200+ dealer members of the organization no longer be required to make refunds to clients based on an "opinion" from PSA/DNA. Based on the high volume of documented errors authenticating, the Board voted unanimously that the dealer membership no longer be required to issue refunds based on a PSA/DNA opinion. The regular and dealer membership of the organization is being advised of this latest ruling.

This isn't a surprise at all. I've heard rumors from people I know in the autograph hobby about this happening for a couple of years now. It probably won't hurt their business much on the sports end, but they never be able to get away with authenticating non-sports sigs.

The big question is, how are Mastro, REA and the other auction houses going to deal with people bringing in PSA/DNA items.

My place is full of valuable, worthless junk.

The only autographed items I own were autographed in person. No COAs, no pictures of the person signing, only an inscription to me or one of my daughters and a lifetime of memories, from Joe D to Brooks Robinson to ted Williams, etc.....

My guess is that top auction houses like MastroNet and REA do not rely soely on the authenticator's opinion. In many cases I'm sure MastroNet uses an outside expert's opinion to double check what MastroNet already beleives is good ... Bidders these days expect a physical LOA to come with their stuff, so I'm sure MastroNet feels compelled to provide them ... There likely are legal/liability reasons to have a recongnized outside company cerfify items ... Lastly, I'm sure the top auction houses consider the opinions of the outside experts they hire to be overall wortwhile.
