If you have sent your cards, and are still going crazy--call your LOCAL American Red Cross (I called San Francisco)--where someone will answer the phone (not Washington, D.C, or Indiana) And they will give you their address for your check (check or money order both fine).

Julie -
Thank you for your donation, your items will be reviewed and submitted (at this time since SGC is the only one stepping forward) to SGC. As soon as we recieve them back we will run the lots! For more updates you can follow the Hurricane thread josh started here.

some should probably be offered raw, and some passed on to kids. I'm sending--a fair amount of dough (for me) to the I DON'T KNOW WHO I'M SENDING IT TO YET. THE ARC--is not the best place to handle your relief dough--sorry, but that's the way it is..

SGC rules, as far as--Ohoh, better forget I said that!

The ARC ordered NO evaculated, and then left and started setting up shelters in Baton Rouge...they should have been taking part in the (so far not much) evaculation of NO. But...I heard a lady on TV tonight, saying that in Vietnam, there were humungoius rescue helecopters, and sea planes...and where are they in NO? It's like--suddenly there's a 3rd world country that's been hit by a disaster or a genocide, right in the south of the U.S.A!

If you do a title search on "Katrina Benefit", you will find several auctions, most donating 100% to the Red Cross.

Here's a list of many serious nonprofit organizations that are taking donations.
If you feel that the Red Cross is not the best place to send your money (Like I do), please select one that meets your criteria from the following list.

"
In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the
Corporation for National and Community Service is coordinating volunteers across the country to assist with repair and relief efforts in areas affected by this devastating storm. Your donation will support volunteers in providing food and shelter, managing donations, helping victims get necessary assistance, and long-term rebuilding efforts. For at least the next 90 days, all donations to the Corporation’s Disaster Relief Fund will be directed toward the Hurricane Katrina Volunteer Support Fund to support relief and rebuilding efforts in the impacted areas."
