Tris Speaker E-Cards

Is it me, or does Speaker appear in less than the normal number of candy sets produced in the early 1900's for a Hall of Famer? He appears in the e90-1, e91-c, e94 and e300 sets (only counting before the cracker jack issues). He does have plenty of tobacco issues. Any idea as to why this is the case? |

You are correct. Though I thought he appeared in some others. I can think of e106 right off the bat. |

Tris Speaker and Walter Johnson were fairly young during the color e card peak. WJ is not in any. |

I don't know the dates of his career off hand, but he may have been too young and relatively unknown. The caramel sets were small and mostly filled with the stars of the day. He only had one T206 when most HOFs have multiple cards. |

Maybe he just wasn't considered that big a star in the 1908-1910 era. |

he does have plenty more T cards than E cards during that time frame (T206, T3, T205, T202, T207, to name a few), though. did T cards have a lower threshold for "celebrity" than E cards? Since E cards are generally smaller, that may be the case. |

Looks like he was on steroids from 1922-25. |

The E90-1 Speaker was printed in the last series and is extremely tough to find. |

Throw in the "D" and "T" cards that have the same "E" fronts then the numbers even out. He is in the D303-1, D303-2, T216, and all of these have the E90-1 style front. |

Most of the early E cards get produced in 1909. And based on what the player was doing in 1908 and before. Most E sets are small, so only the stars appear in the sets. |
