Default T206 Drum Backs

Posted By: Robert Reiss

The last few Drums I've seen (there are 3 on eBay) are all trimmed up top. Is this common? Similar to American Beauty? Ted?????

No, this is not in the manufacture as with American Beauty. These cards are simply trimmed. Suspect they may have come from the Don McPherson collection as he often trimmed his cards to fit in his binder pages.

Hi Robert,
No, Drums were not cut short at the factory like American Beauty's, but were the same size as the rest of the brands. The trimmed ones on EBay all came from the recent Hunt auction where 33 Drum backed cards, all trimmed were sold. Be well Brian

Thanks Brian. I probably should have mentioned the Hunt Auction and modified my McPherson statement to say that they may have "originally" been from his collection.

P.S. And I have no vested interest, but notwithstanding that they are trimmed, most present well and you don't have to pay $2,000 to have a Drum.

Hi Steve,
That's funny, as I was thinking about mentioning that many old time collectors like Don trimmed cards to fit into there albums. I don't think these came from Don,but you never know... I would like to know the history behind the cards. Anyone have any insight? LMK Be well Brian

David Hunt came into a hoard of drum backs and all were cut across the top including the Cobb red background. Yes, a legit Cobb red background which people said the combination couldn't exist.

Hi Dan,
The red background Cobb can and does exist with a Drum back, as I have seen 3 raw and 2 graded. You must be thinking of another pose.

Be well Brian

PS Dan, you know you aren't supposed to talk about UNC cards.... smiley...

Actually, and this was one of my main objections a Hunt's search, is that T206 brought up zip. You had to search T-206.

I finally figured it out, I typed just Drum and found it. I was amazed at how low the Crawford, Chance, & Willis lot went for. Most of the lots seemed very reasonable. I picked one up in a trade and very happy with it.
