It's not the comma that's present on T206s? Perhaps rubbed off a bit?

Default T206 Pickering - What's the period about?

Posted By: Joe D.

its just a print flaw. happens all of the time.
its a piece of dust on the printing plate that blocked the ink from going down 'perfectly'.

Its identical to the white spot you see on the second "N" on his shirt.

Some may get excited by these flaws.... but to me, the white spot on his shirt is just as exciting as a comma looking like a period.

I am more interested in the green along the left edge of the card.

Is that green on the card Trae? I have no idea why that would be on there (from the printer). edit to say: no idea why it would be there so close.... other than this being a make-ready sheet that ended up cut instead of in the garbage. pretty cool.

Also, why is the letter 'A' in Minneapolis as big as the 'M?'

Default T206 Pickering - What's the period about?

Posted By: Trae R.

Thanks Joe, and duh on me for not thinking of the comma being cut off. I have seen quite a few Pickering cards, specifically, with the cut-off comma then. As for the green, I'm not really sure, I noticed that too. This is not my card though, it's from the Library of Congress Archive.

I saw this old thread last night and today I was looking for a card and came across the two Pickering cards I have, so I remembered to check. Both have the period after the name, but two different backs, Piedmont 350 and Polar Bear. So with more interest in t206 quirks, maybe this thread won't die so quick. I'm wondering what percentage of these cards came with the period. So if you got a Pickering, fess up...comma or period?

A fair question, but I hope it doesn't lead to bickering, as that will cause me to start snickering.

Why do I have the urge to suddenly start a Green Eggs and Ham thread?

As for the Pickering period, I am no help.

If the nit-pickering...or dickering...leads to bickering which ultimately leads to snickering...I hope all of the excitement doesn't lead to a drain on the grid...which will cause my lights to start flickering...

Leon, there were actually several 'Pickering periods', referred to individually as the 'Ollie Pickering Period' (1896-1908), the much shorter 'Urbane Pickering Period' (1931-32) and finally, the less interesting 'Calvin Pickering period' (1998-2005).

Other Pickering periods were all considered 'minor', as is the one on his T206 card.

Well since you're all pickering on me, I decided to check ebay using current auctions and past ones that sold

14 periods
4 partial commas/weak
3 full comma
10 or so miscut or bad scans

Wish I had a comma on mine instead of that stupid one with part of another card on bottom, even the back is miscut

I couldn't do that to you, the back is slightly more miscut top to bottom than the front, it has a Piedmont WST on the front and red from the front on the back. It's a real mess. Someone was have a poor quality control day on the presses when this card was made. "Do your work right, hippie!" is what I would've said that day if I was there.

In conclusion, we should all stick to our day jobs since I do not see a career of rapping for any of us.
