Below are seventeen N172 Old Judge cards that I came across and just wanted to share them with all of you. This is a fantastic forum and I am honored to be a member. Jay and Joe have been great in discussing the cards with me and their book is incredible. I have been a collector for over 25 years and this has been the best find of my life.
Take notice of the 1888 New York Giants Stump Weidman card with his name misspelled as Weichman and his jersey still as Detroit (so wish it was in better shape). Don't pass by the Amos Rusie, Buck Ewing, Dummy Hoy and the many other cards. All cards are authentic and were scanned inside of a soft sleeve and top loader to keep them protected as much as possible. These were an estate sale find. My advice.......always ask, the person hosting the sale, if they have any vintage baseball items or cards. After all of the NO's, this time someone actually said YES! |

Nice find...and not surprising that there are a fair number of Indianapolis players, and you are from Indiana.

17 must be a magic # for OJ's---it's the exact number I found at a yard sale in the middle '80's. I had to ask the lady if she had anything in the line of baseball cards or sports items & she reached down into her sewing basket beside her & pulled out 17 OJ's!
I got them for $10 each & included was a Keefe, a Galvin & a Harry Wright! I had never ever even SEEN an OJ & didn't really know WHAT they were other than that they were very OLD! It took me 'til the following year to close the deal & buy them!

Nice group of cards Ted. I think you should start collection OJs, you have a nice little start on an Indy team (if that is your favorite).

Joe, what did I tell you about encouraging people to collect Indianapolis cards?

Thanks all...
I have considered collecting 1889 Indianapolis players. With having the Rusie card already, it looks like it would be interesting to build, especially being from my hometown. |
