Quite the selection for those who collect the items up for auction and have the budget to do so. Not me but certainly interesting. It is listed as from the Dr. G.B. Espy collection. I do not know how to attach a link to Christie’s but clearly many rare items.

I like the Lou Gehrig photo at 13 years old.

Fascinating collection. Thanks for sharing as its enjoyable to peruse and read the blurbs. Amazing what was saved / survived over the years. Curious to see how the final prices compare to the estimates.

27% Buyers Premium.....
Also, I think I read somewhere that, unless noted otherwise, all lots have a reserve which is equal to the low estimate for the lot. I cant find that now, as its not under the FAQ for buying, but I believe that's the case. If so, I wonder whether the reserve is before the 27% BP or includes it. |

Was interesting to watch. Prices on the Gehrig stuff were about what I expected. I made a hard run to steal the 1924 spring training photo but came in 2nd. I was hardly the only one to realize a Gehrig spring training photo from 1924 wasn't a $2,500 photo.
The technical issues they had on this lot were more than a little annoying. Always fun watching a live auction. The buyer's commish, local tax, and credit card fee totalled like 35% for me. Kept the bidding down a bit. Last edited by Snapolit1; 10-22-2025 at 02:17 PM. |

Won my 1st item ever from Christie's. I remember the outrage over their shipping costs for their last several sports auctions. The cost estimator button is nice but that's only bid price plus buyers fee...math i can do myself. Give me an estimate on the unknown variable.

Snarky comment coming:
Bought a rare item from NY/London based Christie’s auction with 27% premium and you are worried about the extra $100 shipping from a premium auction house with higher overhead. Have you bought a pizza in 2025 vs 1995? I bought a bat from one vs a photo from another not expecting a exact calculation if they don’t know the winner is from PA or China.

![]() How would Christie's NOT know your address when it comes to the cost "estimate" option. Once you are logged in to see this option they know who you are and the system knows your address lol. |
