In 1981, Tom Petty famously fought his record label, MCA, to prevent them from raising the price of his album "(Hard Promises)" from the standard $8.98 to $9.98. He threatened to withhold the album, stating that he wanted to keep costs low for his fans and prevent a precedent of "superstar pricing" where album prices would continue to rise. The label ultimately backed down and sold the album at the customary price.
