Not vintage, but hard to beat '57 Topps Mantle. I'll confess to being biased as it is one of the first cards I recall seeing as a kid and serious Mantle fan.

Great idea for a thread. Thanks for the great images everyone! I'm especially liking the Walter Johnson highlights. There are a couple cards of his here I haven't seen before.
One set not mentioned (I think) was the '34-'36 Diamond Stars. It's got some nice designs:
