Here's what Sandy Koufax called the biggest World Series game of his career. It set the tone for the 4 game beatdown that the Dodgers inflected on the Bombers. This series was a "get even" series as the boys in blue, blew the deflated Yanks right out of the House that Ruth built!
![]() The photo has become an iconic image in the Sports World of Baseball Card Collecting Baby Boomers (like most everyone here). 1963KoufaxGame1FamousImage.jpg1964Koufax-Ks-15.jpg 1963KoufaxGame1FamousImageSLUG.jpg |

Interesting that an 1895 image is used on a 20th century card.

So here's a question: what process do you guys follow to match up a photo to a card? By that I mean, are you familiar enough with the card images that, when you happen upon the corresponding photo, you recognize it immediately? Or do you see a likely photo, and then go looking through cards for that player to make the match? Or is it something more serendipitous and in-between? Just curious as to how others go about it.

Lance
I'm not much into the photos, but I do pick one up every now & then. For me, sometimes I see a photo & just know I've seen the image somewhere else. So then I start looking at the player's cards. I've had the chance to buy a few others in the past, but didn't want to spend a lot and was outbid. They weren't real big stars like some of the other photos posted so far. When I saw the Dickey though, it kinda stood out like a sore thumb. Jantz |

Here is the version of your Play Ball Bill Dickey I mentioned earlier. I knew I had saved the photo. I still kick myself for not picking it up when I had the chance.

Here's the same photo in a National Copper Plate supplement, with a Sporting Life cover photo glued to it (since removed):
