I was bidding on it as well, but my bid was only $383, I didn't want to pay that much for 2 Demmitts I don't think you could get off that tool box lid. I was hoping no one else paid attention to it.
I was just doing some random ebay searches when I found that auction, almost did not take the time to look at the pictures, and when I saw 2 Demmitts, I could not believe it. |

That piece is perfect the way it is. I wouldn't dream of trying to remove the cards.

I bid on it with the intention of removing one of the Demmitts to sell and leaving the other Demmitt and all other cards intact as is.

I bought it with the intention of removing the cards... but the more I think about it that plan may change. I was going to sell one of the Demmitts, along with the Cy Youngs and HOFs, to basically get a Demmitt for free but now I worry I might be destroying the true value (not to mention possibly the cards as well) in separating them.
I can't wait to see it up close! Once I get them and take some better pics I may put a poll up and let the good people of Net54 decide it's fate.

The lid is totally amazing. For starters the toolbox lid itself is SOLID. It has a lot of weight to it and a ton of character. The cards are obviously in rough shape but as a whole it presents well. They are glued on from the back side only so I think I could remove the two Demmitts but I have decided to keep it together as one piece. I currently have it hanging on my wall by the hinges which works perfectly. I am trying to find a more suitable method of display like an antique wood/glass display coffee table. Here is a photobucket link to some better pics:
