Gary,
I have no idea. This the first time I have seen an SGC slabbed photo. it's smaller, so it probably sits in an Exhibit card size holder. I've always liked the black surround of the SGC holder as a contrast for cards and even this picture. Scott, I agree with you about slabbing. I don't care for it, and wouldn't spend my own money to do it. I bought the picture this way. I'm tempted to crack it out, but I do kinda like the way this one looks in it.

I also agree with the SGC black background slab for providing contrast, and also uniformity for display of your favorite pieces that are not from the same set. Though generally against slabbing, I do understand the benefits and I sometimes take advantage of them.

Got this ball at an estate sale yesterday...it's a 1948 team signed Lincoln Athletics ball with Nellie Fox signature. This ball has been at the top of my wantlist for a long time.

Thanks Clint...they showed a picture of the ball on their website...I was anxious about it all week, because it was a tag sale that hands out numbers in the morning and only the first 30 people will get in right away. I showed up at 6:30 AM to get in line and was already the 13th person back. Of course they hand out multiple numbers to people so when I got my ticket I was number 23. Came back close to opening time and was lucky enough to get to the baseball before anyone else.

I went to a tag sale this weekend also because they had a box full of vintage baseball stuff (gloves, catchers gear, two flannels). Well when I got there, Iwas already number 60 and would have to wait awhile to get in. So in the meantime they opened up the garage and I found this vintage bat "The Victor". Guessing it's from around 1905-10, it's in bad shape but only paid $1. Anyone know more info about this company?
So when we were waiting a lady came out with the baseball box and I asked her how much she paid.. $450. I don't think it was worth anywhere near $450 (included a photo of the lot, what you guys think?) |
