Default Jersey

Was happy to get this off the 'Bay for a paltry sum. Has double significance for me as I am from the State College, PA. area AND it was made by the Honus Wagner Sporting Goods Company

Yesterday's antique show haul...heading back today as one dealer told me he's been holding some stuff for me and he forgot it at home. Will show a pic of that stuff later.

Default Recent October pickups

Here are 3 new pickups to show:

1) 1937 Wheaties box panel of HOF'er Ernie Lombardi. He caught Johnny Vander Meer's consecutive no-hitters in 1938

2) 1940 World Series game 5 ticket stub. This game would prove to be Vander Meer's only appearance in the October classic. Vandy pitched 3 shutout innings in relief.

3) 1972 Bob Moose Testimonial program. Bob Moose no-hit the Miracle Mets in NY on 9/20/69. He ironically died suddenly in 1976 while getting into a two car crash in OH heading to his own 29th birthday party at Bill Mazeroski's house.

I recently picked up a few items from Pirate Bob Moose’s estate. They include his 1971 Pirates team travel Blazer with matching tie, and a tankard commemorating the 1971 Pirates World Series Championship. Each member of the team was given a tankard. The wire photo shows Moose (left) and Bruce Kison (right) leaving Memorial Stadium shortly after game seven. In the background of the photo is Bob Prince who had chartered a helicopter to deliver Kison to his wedding which was scheduled that same afternoon. Moose served as the best man. Although it is difficult to see, if you look closely at Kison’s blazer it appears to be similar to the one I purchased. Moose is carrying his own Blazer. Obviously I cannot be certain that it is the same jacket. However, it may not be a strecth to assume so. Bob Moose died tragically on October 9, 1976 in a car accident. He was traveling to a party being held at Bill Mazeroski’s house to celebrate his 29th Birthday.

Those are just awesome! Brings back kid memories... watching those Pirate teams back then were great...I still remember the thrill of seeing them vs my Giants at Old Candlestick... Bob died much too young...

Those are some terrific items you got from the estate of Bob Moose, Mike. Damn... you've been on some kind '71 Pirates roll lately. Hope you can keep it going!

Now I've had this photo for a couple years now, and when I saw Ben's photo pop up on Legendary's last auction, I did a double take. I knew it wasn't the same image and after looking at them now side by side for the first time, I see it's not from the same swing like I had originally thought, but it's certainly from the same time.

I brought it to Ben's attention and he said "I've seen that image before... the Lou Gehrig Comic Book!" And sure enough, a quick search on ebay confirmed it. Well, I've sold and traded most of my companion pieces but something tells me I may need to make an exception here.

Thanks Ben. You doubled the value of my photo!

Here's my photo and Ben's...

Default 1949 Movie Poster

I have always wanted an example of this 1949 poster. It features the 1948 Tribe and 11 members of the Baseball Hall of Fame. I picked this one up fairly cheaply due to a few condition issues. They really don't detract from the piece and will be covered when the poster is matted and framed.
