Default 2nd Frederick Foto catcher

Picked up this Bobby Schang Frederick Foto that arrived today. Looks good with the Oscar Stanage Frederick Foto I purchased a few years back.

Default OJ's

Marty Sullivan 0477 and Pat Murphy. SGC graded

Dumb question: Is the baseball suspended from a wire for the pictures, or do they actually "toss" it in for the picture?

Sorry, rookie OJ collector here

You know, I assumed photographic technology prevented them from doing any "action" photos. The players had to hold poses sometimes for several minutes. Am I correct?

I have several really dark-imaged OJ's where you can see the wire that suspends the baseball. I assume they were consistent with their photographic techniques.....

I was very fortunate to add this group to my collection today - 9 Stenzel's and a Cameo Pepsin.

Jeff

Instantaneous or near instantaneous photography was widely practiced by the time Old Judge cards were produced but it was far easier to photograph a pseudo-action scene when the ball was suspended as desired.

Jim, that postcard read "compliments of Morrison Hotel and Boston Oyster House."

Aren't they the same ones who produced the Grignon post cards a year earlier?

I don't collect postcards, but I love these Grignons. I made a run at the complete set in the last REA, but I gave up because I spent so much on something else. But I'd love to get some someday.
Good luck with your collection.

Thank you....I thought I saw a line above the ball but i wasn't sure....

I think it's amazing how clear some of the images are considering they had to stay VERY still or risk blurring the exposure....

Amazing pieces of US history, 125 years old and counting!
