I could look at these posts all day, thanks Al. I love that Simmons 69 card. I never understood why Whitey traded him, and we got Darrell Porter as his replacement. I guess he was Whitey's boy from KC. All worked out though as we beat Milwaukee (and Simmons) in 82 W.S.
When I was about 8 in 1974 I got a 61 card (can't remember, it was a common) with a 69 Tommy Helms decal on it. Thought it to be very odd / strange / cool, and maybe worth something, until I found out what is was. Just got my first decal a couple weeks ago, the Mantle. |

Awesome Al, thanks for sharing. What's the story on the Kuhn card? Never seen one before (I am adsurdly ignorant on pre-80s).

He was elected Commissioner in February of 1969. This "card", which is on thin paper stock was produced by Topps presumably for his personal use, maybe like the 1990 Bush card and the two single Joe Garagiola business cards from 1976 and 1991. The back has personal bio info on Kuhn

Interesting, thanks. I find the oddball/test stuff more interesting than the regular issues.

Al,
Great stuff as always. Is your Bush card the more rare Type 1 or Type 2? Z Wheat |

Got it some time back so sure it must be the "common" version. But have never seen the "premium" version in person so not sure of all the differences. If there are as many as now seems, it is amazing to me that no autographed version has ever shown up. Many/Most of the Garagiloas have autos. Given it was a business card that is not too surprising, but wonder what an authentic Bush auto on one of his "premium" cards would bring.
I am not a graded collector but it is one card I would not buy in it's natural state. There are bound to be fakes coming if not already out there |
