This is the first I have heard of this--perhaps you used a different shipping method. APO and FPOs are charged domestic postage to San Francisco or NYC. These boxes are intentionally set up for military members who are overseas so they can send and receive packages at the same rates as stateside members. You can do what you want but to the best of knowledge, you pay the same price to an APO as you would to any stateside address.

That's true. I was stationed in England for 4 years, and deployed to the Middle East. Everything I was sent came with normal postage. I think there is an APO/FPO box that you can cram a much as you want into it, which is about $9 regardless of weight. Maybe that's what happened.

I certainly have nothing against our military....just disconcerted with the rate I was charged. Maybe a USPS clerical error?

I don't think anybody is saying you're against the military. I think you got some bad guidance at the Post office. The only thing an APO requires over stateside is a customs form, which takes a minute to fill out. Anyway, good luck with your auction, and maybe consider APOs on your next one.

If you use a large flat rate box, the box is free and mailing one to an APO is two bucks cheaper than mailing it to a US destination. This helps people sending goodies to familiy members who are stationed overseas.
Any other items to an APO or FPO are the exact same postage as a package mailed to a US destination. If the Postal clerk charged you more, then he/she made a mistake. You may need to fill out a customs form for a parcel, but that is the only difference. Rick
