My guess is that they aren't stating this on every flip, but instead flips that may contain a year that was written by the player, and are including it to parlay any doubts about the validity of the autograph due to the year it was signed. It is a card from 1909, so it's understandable. I could be wrong, but that was my thought on it when I first saw this card...
