Default OT: "Remember me? Joseph Lannin"

Neat story on Joseph Lannin from the Toronto Sun

"When Joseph Lannin fatally fell to his death from a New York City hotel room in 1928, Joseph Lannin left behind more than a millionaire's mystery.

He left behind one of the great rags-to-riches tales in Canadian history, having gone from teenage Quebec orphan to self-made success to Boston Red Sox owner, securing in the process a timeless link to baseball's biggest-ever star."

Per baseball reference - Official cause of death was a "dizzy spell".

It is my understanding that market losses led him to jump. About 15 years ago I read a story about his son finding a cache of Red Sox Photos from Spring Training from the 1915-18 period.

At that time the then elderly son told friends that his Mom had forbidden him from playing, talking or following baseball. It was too painful for her to remember and she had been bitter about her husband's suicide.

The son then produced a wonderful magazine sized publication of the photos which of course has been invaluable to Hot Springs' Spring Training researchers!

I wrote Mr. Lannin and he was kind enough to send me copy at that time.
