Default New Member & 1933 Goudey Ruth Raw opinions

Hi everyone... long time lurker on this board and finally joined. Need the boards opinion on a few cards... I recently did a deal on ebay and picked up a PSA 33 Goudey Ruth. After the transaction he said he had other cards for sale and if I'd be interested in any. Here are the scans of the ones I'm interested in. I believe they are good, but buying raw cards does have risks. Opinions needed... Thanks for reading... Mike

Welcome aboard Mike! Agreed, buying ungraded cards pose a risk, but so does buying graded from certain grading companies ( as some on this board will tell you ). What is it about the cards, that leads you to believe that the cards are not authentic?

Don't be fooled....buying graded has risks too. That said, these look good to me and welcome to the board.

Welcome to the forum, Mike.

While I am certainly not the expert on vintage and pre-war cards that many of our other members are, I see nothing in these scans that would raise a red flag. The Goudey and U.S. Caramels have uniform wear around the edges and corners. The typography looks correct, the coloring is spot on compared to the other examples I have seen.

Everything looks good to me. Hope you can get them!

Edit: I agree with the comments about graded cards, too. Always buy the card, not the grade. Examine it just like you would a raw card. Use a jeweler's loupe, and compare it to another from the same set that you know is legitimate.

Thanks for the fast replies! I thought they looked good. So the lot would be these 4 cards and a 33 goudey #92 gehrig psa 1.5. Does 1200 seem to be a fair price for the 5 cards?

$1200 would be a great price for that group - the Ruth could fetch $1000+ on its own.

Be careful and hopefully it's not "too" good of a price to be true!

$1200 sounds about right until you throw the Gehrig in. It's not the steal of the century but good enough to ensure you have a refund option. I'd use payment methods that will give you some security and see if you can call the seller to discuss the transaction.

I agree with Tom. I wouldn't do it at all unless with cc. Deal seems a little too good to me.

Default Update

Bumb to my thread a few weeks past. I went ahead and purchased the lot of 5 cards and received them last week. Everything looked good so I sent them off to PSA for grading. The Ruth came back PSA 1, which was expected. Just waiting on the 3 US Caramels. Update when those grades post.

That Ruth sure looks a heck of a lot nicer than a 1. Why do you think it got such a low grade?

I thought it could've gone 1.5 with the nice color but there are multiple creases. Overall it's a nice PSA 1.

Based on the scan, it looks like a 2. Most of the creases are light and the eye appeal is all there. I think it's a nice looking card.

Wow. I've seen a few 3's worse than that.

The 3 U.S. Caramels all graded PSA 2's.
