One curiosity though. Most of the players are portrayed with their team name and logo on their hat. Others there is no team name or logo (blacked out). I wonder about the story behind that. Did the set producer have to contact each individual team for permission?

From the looks of it, these would have been printed between '51 and '52. Pafko was a member of the Cubs prior to those two seasons, and the Milwaukee Braves after. Ernie Banks and Eddie Mathews are pictured with their team logos, but Don Newcombe is not.
Hi Bill:

YEAH! I do feel like I hit the jackpot with these! Thanks.

These are the regular issue of the 1959 Exhibit Card set with the Dad's Cookies ad on the reverse. It is not known if Dad's did the back printing or the Exhibit Co. Dad's had nothing to do with the photos. That was up to the Exhibit Card Company. Why they choose to use certain photos without logos while others had them is something we will pobably never know. FYI the card of Newcomb you reference was issued with the Dodgers logo on his cap and jacket in an earlier Exhibit set. He was later traded to the Reds, I believe, and they just airbrushed out the Dodgers stuff and issued him in a plain cap etc., much like Topps has been known to do.

That's a hell of a hit, Fred, congrats!

I picked up a few modest pieces:

[QUOTE=Exhibitman;1203529]That's a hell of a hit, Fred, congrats!

Thanks Adam! I had been trying for years just to find one (hopefully Ashburn since I collect his stuff), but being an Exhibit collector too these fit right in to my collection. Found it hard to believe the guy had JUST a set. NO dupes!

I don't do grading, but am considering it on these. What is your take if I do so? PSA or SGC? I have heard from others they will not take into account that these were issued with staples, so there can not be any high grades right from the start. Should I just get them authenticated instead of a numerical grade? Any guidance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Fred

Thx Al. My switch from hockey cards to baseball cards in 2012 was in the pre-war stuff, Principaly T206 cards. And now, almost 2 years after my introduction, i moved to the goudey cards in pre-war and at the shriners show this month i started to buy Some post-war cards.

At the begining my idea was to only have the Mantle since it is the most iconic post war card and probably 1 of the most iconic of ALL baseball card. But now, my idea changed a little bit i think i will buy other post war card.

I also buyed a 1961 Maris card because i really love the movie 61
I will also probably buy 1 or 2 Jackie robinson also beause i really love the movie
And finally i will buy more Mantle cards.
Thx again for the nice word Al

Great pickup Nelson. As I am sure you know, it is tough to find a 1 that is that clean.

Hi Ricky:

yeah, jackpot is a good word! LMK what grade yours has. I assume from talking to others they do not take into account that they were issued with staples and will not grade them high due to this.

Fred, mine is G-VG card of Elston Howard, but with the staple hole...it did come back a SGC 10 Poor...so I think the staple holes definitely accounted for the down grade...

Hi Ricky:

Thanks for checking on the Dad's cookies card. I assumed they would not take the staple holes into account. Not that big a deal for me because for the most part I do not do grading. But it is good to know what to expect should I ever decide to get them graded.
