They kind of do, but that dollar sign looking S looks more like something Thurston Howell III would have if he owned a baseball team.

I almost pulled the trigger on this but wasn't comfortable with the description or image. It was cheap enough for the risk but I couldn't identify the player. I was leaning towards it being a Seals PC too.

I don't have a team name for your Nate, but the jerseys match.

Seablaster:
That is the 1909 Springfield MA ponies team. Harl Maggert and Shano Collins are two players of note. |

You all are awesome. The knowledge on here is staggering!
Just tried scouring baseball reference to look at the Springfield Ponies' players who have available pictures, but haven't had any success. This player is about 5'11" - 6'1" tall...

This picture has been uploaded before to net54, but wanted to put it in this thread. This is the 1905 Springfield Ponies team. Anyone think it resembles any of these players?

He kind of looks like this guy (same chin I think) - Murray Parker played for the 1909 Springfield Ponies:

Shano Collins is not in that photo. Bill Powell (back row 3rd from right) dates it to likely 1908. Maggert is middle row far left, Pop Rising is middle row 2nd from right. Our guy Parker is front row 2nd from left.

Correct. My bad. Collins was only there in 09 so the 08 date is most likely.

How about middle row, far right? I think that's the guy in my first pic, middle row, 3rd from left.

I agree that it is probably Parker.
Interesting to note that the guide photo differs slightly from the postcard though obviously taken at the same time. View Powell (right behind the team owner in the suit) looking to his right in the PC and to his left in the guide pic. Last edited by Jacklitsch; 11-22-2013 at 09:58 AM. |
