If you read the listing, it is not Heritage auction, it is American Heritage. The card is in remarkably nice condition for one that has been around so long. I personally believe it is undoubtedly fake, and I checked on PSA's site, and they too list the card as "IMP".

Tinker could have signed HOF related items, BUT could not have signed this item because it was produced after his death? I really don't know much about the HOF postcards so it is good to know when they are produced. |

Was unaware of that. Thanks.. I don't know much about the HOF postcards, just figured they were sold at the souvenir stands/stores the years someone was inducted.

Artvue postcards
The quickest way to tell on the black and white HOF postcards is the bolt holes on the plaques are empty on 1953-55. On 56 up they covered the holes.

Though the printing on the back does say Albertype.

You are right, I did not look that far down and see the back. The card is possible I assume.

Tinker was a Type 2 Alberttype. "Type 2 Albertype plaque postcards were produced from 1945 through 1952 and the text on the bottom of the front reads "Cooperstown, New York"."

The same seller has this Grover Cleveland Alexander, which looks too good to be true. I don't know enough about his signature nor Tinker's, but I do know that B&W Plaques are highly forged and most of the real ones I've seen don't look as though they were kept in a vault for years. I'd be leary.

The Alex is terrible.

So.... If it is "possible" he signed it, would anyone have an opinion as to the authenticity of the signature. I personally have not, and would not, bid either way but am still curious.

I did not like the Tinker at all when I saw it. I then saw the seller's Alexander, which is a clear fake, sealing the deal for me. Don't touch either of them.

Tinker sold for around $350, Alex for around $220.
A fraction of what they would have sold for if legit.

Good question.
The Florida garbage (Mantle, Williams, DiMaggio, etc.) forgeries are being scooped up for resale in little auctions that are out of the limelight or they are going to CC. B&W plaks do not sell the way those photos do so it is hard to say where they are going. The serious collector who is buying B&W plaks is probably smart enough to avoid this ebay crap. But I would love to know who is buying this stuff.
