I'm sure restoration would require removing the cup from the base. How do you think they are connected? Can't tell due to the felt bottom.

There's normally a simple screw/bolt mechanism. Pretty easy to separate the two, once you have it in-hand...

There's either a rod that goes through the cup itself or one attached to the bottom of the cup. There should be a hole through the center of the base (covered by the felt) and the rod is connected to the base with a hex nut.

Should be very simple to remove from the base.

That's a super item. Normally I would say to leave it alone, but in this case I think it's a great idea to restore it. What a great piece!
