Bruce Dickinson~Iron Maiden
Rob Halford~ Judas Priest, Fight, Halford
Ronnie James Dio(RIP)~ Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio
Ozzy Osbourne~ Black Sabbath, Ozzy ( from first Sabbath album through "Bark At The Moon")

I'm tired but off the top of my head these four stand out in the "classic Metal" category. Will add to later....

How can you neglect Michael Kiske from Helloween??
My other fave, to completely switch genres, is Andrew Eldritch from the Sisters of Mercy.

I agree wholeheartedly! We have the classic metal station on our Pandora shuffle at work, and they play a lot of Dio-based Sabbath. I think he is the quintessential heavy metal vocalist.

I guess he is also credited with popularizing the heavy metal "horns" symbol that you see held high at almost any concert, which is pretty damn cool. \m/
