Ben, just noticed your Jackie Robinson letter - that is spectacular.

This one arrived in the mail today. I picked it up on eBay from one of the sellers linked to the John Rogers archives. I was surprised to see that a few of the photos, including this one, had been slabbed by PSA. I wonder if they are testing the waters and will do this more often. I can't imagine that they would as it would seem to be cost prohibitive in large volumes. The PSA encapsulation certainly didn't result in a price increase in the photo I purchased.

Picked up this great Bain photo of "Death Valley" Jim Scott. The stamp on the back is dated April 16, 1914. I'm pretty sure this photo was taken 2 days earlier on April 14, 1914 when Scott opened the Chicago White Sox's 1914 season by beating Willie Mitchell and the Cleveland Indians.

Packs,
That's really a dandy photo of Death Valley Jim!
You probably knew that he took a no-hitter into the 10th inning before surrendering a hit? Scott ended up actually losing to the Washington Senators 1-0 on May 14, 1914.
Here is Scott's super elusive sig that I finally found in 2012.

Very cool! I always loved Jim because of his Cracker Jack card. You know the White Sox really stunk when a guy goes 20 - 21 with a 1.90 ERA.

Nice sig!

Default Mickey Mantle Day blue pennant

Not the vintage of most other pickups shown here, but I thought it was worthy of a post because I had never seen this different design, blue one before.

I've had the fairly common red June 8, 1969 Mickey Mantle Day pennant for quite some time, but I didn't even know this version existed.

Even so, when I saw it for sale, I didn't snap it up. But then I couldn't stop thinking about it.
Fortunately, it was still available when I checked on it again. Unfortunately, the seller wouldn't budge on the price...probably because I kept saying that I've been a collector for so long and never saw this before!
I finally pulled the trigger and I'm glad I did.
