Thanks for sending this. I was not aware that it was on Keyman--I got this off of eBay. It is interesting to see that it might be from the 50s and great to hear the price I paid was fair. |

Picking up where I left on my Mantle kick that started in about 2001, but had tailed off the past few years.

Thanks guys! I've long liked this pose... sort of a pensive, even subdued version of the Mick.
Only a couple Bowmans remain to complete the Topps/Bowman Mantle run (not including all the misc All Stars/two player cards/etc). 20 years ago when I scored my first two Micks (nice '66 and '67) from a HS friend for peanuts (he wanted a few bucks to buy some jeans), I'd have never imagined I'd still be going after these things well into my 30s. Will have to take a full group shot when done, but for now, this is the most comprehensive pic I've got taken several years ago. |

Great Mantles...and love the 63 Killer (my favorite player, and great SP card)...
Alright, I hope Matt doesn't chastise me too much on the OC of this card..haha..., but after months and months of having my heart broke, missed opportunities, and thrill of the chase, I finally won a 55 Clemente I am happy with. This also completes my 1955 Topps Set. I was hoping for a more centered version, but not having any major creasing (to be consistent with my set) was more important to me. I am flat out stoked, and can't wait to hold... I also wanted to post this. Normally I crack graded cards for my sets (outside my registered player collections) but with all the Clemente Reprints out there I am going to keep this one in jail. So I don't have a hole in the binder, I thought I would buy one of the many reprints/archive cards. Then I found this. This card frankly scares the hell out of me...it will be interesting to see in hand but this could fool a lot of folks online. What do you guys think? It was fully advertised as a reprint, zero attempts to mislead, and it was $10. I bought it for the binder - Claims it is the same size and everything. I have yet to receive it...but wow.

Congrats on the Clemente and completing the '55 set.. great set! I think I'm in the minority, but OC never bothered me nearly as much as corner wear, creases, or surface blemishes/fading. I feel like the focus was more on clean corners when I began collecting (80's), but the hobby's shifted to centering.. That may just be my personal experience though. Regardless, I've remained similar in my conditions tastes, though have come to appreciate good centering and see it as an added bonus.
