Although; even though he needs to forfeit 15% of his yearly bonus, he will be granted 3 months paid leave while the trial commences, and still accrue his bonus during that period.

Stories like this make me shake my head. I often forget the immense trust that we put into people when we mail a package. All it takes is one bad apple to make something disappear.
