Default Walter Johnson 301st win ticket stub- May 29, 1920

I recently picked up this vintage Walter Johnson win ticket at Philly A's.
This was Walter's 301st career win and a nifty shutout to boot (#88/110 career shutouts- a ML record). WaJo shut out the A's 5-0 with 7 K's and 0 BB in the 2nd game of a double header.

This ticket originated from a large collection of vintage Philadelphia A's and Phillies ticket stubs that first surfaced in the hobby in the mid 1990's. All games were most likely attended by one patron or family as all the notations were written in the same hand.

Hey Scott, I actually had a shot at that ticket the day before you picked it up but I passed as I did not have enough info to place it on that exact date. As you know, I have been piecing together undated Yankees stubs for a while now and am at the point where I have 1923-1973 pinned. I also have decoded NY Giants stubs 1948-1957.

Not that I need a new project, but does the "C" refer to 1920 as I suspect?

Pat,
Sorry, I don't have an answer to that question about the "C" reference. I'm not sure what its significance is.
I do know a fair amount about the collection that it came from and am very comfortable with the source, FWIW.
I have bought several tickets from this collection since they first surfaced in 1994.

Default A's ticket

It would be great if someone could puzzle out Philadelphia Athletics (and Phillies) tickets. This isn't mine and I can't remember where I got the scan but here's a ticket presumably from that same Philadelphia fan. It's dated 1921 but has an "A" so it doesn't seem to suggest the Athletics used a letter to designate the year.

I don't have any Athletics tickets from the 1920's. The particular examples I have from the 1930's lack any letter prefixes but letters do return in the 1940's.

Also, you can look at the small window when Connie Mack was the manager and narrow the years down that way too....

I don't think it is unfathomable to think the A's undated ticket code could be cracked for the simple reason that now that I have seen enough samples, they seem to have used a lettering system like the Yankees and Giants did for the majority of their history. Scott......

Are all the tickets from that 1994 collection you obtained have letter "C" on them?

If the answer is yes, than I would say its worth attempting to piece together. If no, then I am not sure where to even begin.

Actually only one of my tickets from this collection has a "C" on it Pat.
Without the patron adding notes to the tickets, it would be a real challenge to nail down exact dates...
