I've dealt with Mike/Columbia City on different occasions, but this item is a wee bit off the chart.

One of a kind Lou Gehrig card? Hard to say what a good value is on something like that.

Seems like the seller just wings it on pricing. Take a look at other auctions. Lots of "Only one known" stuff.

Has been acquiring unique and oddball items for longer than many on this board have been buying cards period. If mike states it is the only one known their is a good chance he is telling the truth as he knows it. He is a wealth of knowledge on esoteric and unique cards. He is not cheap but why should he be on such rare treasures.

In this case, that is definitely a strange Gehrig piece and the single-serving Wheaties "cards" have always been really popular as you really only got those on trains, at hotels and restaurants (not nearly as common as the regular box back cards that are a tough sell.) I'd want to see another before I ever decided it was a legitimate single serving Wheaties issue, and at that price I certainly wouldn't be a buyer even if everything checks out.

It is an ask price not a reported sale price. Cocicoco has had some items in its inventory for years without a sale. I've seen the same overpriced uncut strips of bread labels for many years. I suspect the Gehrig will be part of its virtual museum for many years to come. Then again, you gotta love a seller who knows he has a rarity and sticks to his guns on price.

Neat piece for sure. I suspect it's trimmed on the bottom though, so as to remove the "Breakfast of Champions" "whole wheat goodness" yadda yadda message. By the description, it measures 3/4" short top to bottom, which seems like that would just about fit that breakfast message. I guess when you're looking at that level of scarcity you take what you can get, but some purists might balk, and especially at that price.

The mini's are definitely hard to find... the seller does know his odd ball stuff..and he's got tons.... I've bought some obscure stuff from him before...the prices...he has high as well as reasonable prices...

This is The Gehringer Mini only one I ever came across. I like the Mini Gehrig but I think the borders on the regular sized series look great and they display nicely. The Full sized Gehrig is not just one of my favorite Gehrig's but one of my Favorite Baseball cards.

I haven't gotten into the Wheaties yet but they will be on the hit list in the future. That mini in the first post of the thread is neat....Looks like some can be kind of pricey even though the first one below is a set.
