This one was like pulling teeth as I had it on my radar for over a year while it sat in Andy Imperato's stash. Patience paid off for me.
A 1 of 1 according to any population reports. Attendance was in the 9,000 range according to the Baseball Encyclopedia making this a fairly rare stub. May 22, 1963 represents one of Mickey Mantle's most talked about home runs of his career. On his own account it was the "hardest hit ball" he's ever felt. Many websites and news articles put this in the top 10 farthest hit HR's in MLB history. Folklore says the ball could have gone 734ft if it had not hit the facade at Yankee Stadium. The only man to hit the facade (Mantle did it twice).
