On the 2 $700 bids the high bidder bid $700---the underbidder also bid $700 and ebay takes the first bid---anyone that bids now would knock off the $700 bid. Don

Good reason to not bid at an even amount, I have a fair number of auction wins by bidding at just a small increment over an even amount... ie.$702.07, etc.

The "secret" wasn't the point...the point is that I (continue to) win a fair number of auctions because I barely outbid the very small percent of bidders who don't execute this simple "secret" bid strategy.

Yup great strategy overbid for a card by 500 so you can employ the "bid .01 over an even amount to win it technique".

Well at least the 3rd highest bidder (who only over bid the speculated value by $400) bid an odd dollar amount as their high bid ($605 vs $600) demonstrating some sort of bidding strategy. The 6 highest bidders, who all bid more than the speculated value, must all have known something that none of the respondents to this thread know.

Seems like a lot of money for that card, regardless of strategy.
