Matt - as always, great pick ups.
I am usually not much on the 'floating heads' league leader cards, but I am a fan of the '62 HR leaders card for what it represents from a historical/significance perspective. I picked one up last month. Tough one to find with good centering and absence of print flaws. No one remembers, but Jim Gentile had a hell of a season in '61 as well. Those other 2 guys completely overshadowed him, however |

I was also impressed by how tough the card is to find with centering and decent image quality; I love cards like that and this one had nice centering. I also liked how Mantle seems to be looking at Gentile, as if to say, "What the hell is this guy doing here?" Last edited by MattyC; 01-14-2015 at 12:07 PM. |

I have to admit I slept on the card for the longest time, until my buddy who works with a card dealer told me to take note of it due to the historic aspect and the centering issue. Lots of overlooked leader cards out there that have huge star power. Would probably make for a great scan thread of leader cards...

Having gained 40 pounds and made too many impulse buys (though none for big $$) in the months following my divorce, I decided to focus 2015 on the 1956 Topps Brooklyn Dodgers team set, of which I already owned a total of 0 cards. I can only buy with money I "earn" by taking care of my health, as detailed here.
So here is what I earned so far this year, along with doing some great things for my health and enjoying the immediate gratification structure that normally is missing from dieting and exercise: Amoros_1956.jpg Erskine_1956.jpg Jackson_1956.jpg Loes_1956.jpg Spooner_1956.jpg

1962 Jello Joe Torre. I have been looking for this card for a LONG time. There is now one less hole in my Torre collection.

Good for you to take some small but positive steps towards health and have it apply to you hobby in a good way. I think it's a great idea and would encourage you to start your own thread about this so we as a community can see your progress. Imagine how great you will feel both physically and emotionally when you've earned enough for Jackie Robinson or a Sandy Koufax. For those who don't know what this is all about I would encourage you to read Jason's link in his above post. Best of luck and keep us posted, Drew

Even though I am primarily a postwar collector, I did want to brag about grabbing these from a favorite pre-war set of mine.img002.jpg
