I've always wondered why no Sports or Non-Sports cards were ever issued with the Chesterfield brand ?

Liggett & Myers introduced this brand in 1912, packaging these cigarettes in the standard pack. What did they use for cigarette pack stiffiners (if not cards) ?

Ted, great scorecard and I haven't seen Chesterfield stuff either but it seems the brand itself (Chesterfield) was later than our stuff... Here is a new Middy pick up and a few others...

Thanks for the compliment regarding my World Series program(s). I have most of the Yankees World Series programs from 1923 - 1981.
I try to acquire the programs that are scored, as I find them to be more interesting.


Liggett & Myers was given the following Cigarette brands when ATC was divested in May 1911:

Piedmont
Fatima
American Beauty
Home Run
Coupon
King Bee

And as you know, tobacco cards (BB & non-sports) with some of these advertisements (American Beauty, Coupon, Fatima, Piedmont, etc.)
continued to be issued until 1919.

So, I find it quite puzzling that the Chesterfield brand was not printed on tobacco cards shortly after its introduction by L & M in 1912.

Gotta give "PROPS" to my Dad...he found the TTT pack and didn't even know what it was...he just knew that I collected, among other things, old cigarette packs...

Greg sensational TTT pack, wow!! Here's something special. If another one does exist, I've not heard or ever seen it. Original Crackerjack box circa 1914/15 that would have housed a card. With the help of a very knowledgeable Crackerjack collector, we have confirmed that all of the key markings (patent date, trademark, labeling, etc) are all present confirming this time period. Yes, it had been opened prior to purchasing it. Love this thread!

actually to the best of my knowledge they issued what are known as "women's heads" pinbacks manufactured by whitehead and hoag to accompany their chesterfield brand circa 1904 - so they were around before the "T" era and beyond. I imagine different strategies were used by the parent company or the principles depending on the region, vision, and cost of sales.

Chesterfield was a Liggett & Myers cigarette brand which was first introduced in 1873 by the Drummond Tobacco Company of St. Louis. The American Tobacco Company (ATC)
bought Drummond in October 1898. Liggett & Myers became part of ATC's trust in 1899. ATC continued to manufacturer Chesterfield until the 1911 trust dissolution. Therefore,
I find it quite puzzling that there were no Sports or Non-Sports cards advertising the Chesterfield brand.



Program's scorecard....4th game, Yankees won 8-4 vs. Giants. Babe Ruth got 8 hits in Series for .368 BA with 3 HR's to enable the Yankees to win their first W.S.
