I'm pretty sure that would have been 10 pesos and not 10 dollars. Back then it would have been about 8 pesos to the dollar, so it would have been about a buck and a quarter.

I didn't realize that denoting peso amounts used the same or similar ($) sign as well. Makes sense.

Yeah, the Mexican peso uses the same symbol ($).
However, I think my memory was off somewhat. I'm about 4 hours away from the border and used to go down there once in a while in the '70s and early '80s with friends. I would always buy 6-packs of XXX Cerveza (Tres Equis) (which they don't make anymore) to bring back for 15 pesos which I remember as being $1.25 American. So back then it would have been 12 pesos to the dollar making the magazine price less than one American dollar. |
