That is the size of a small softball, larger than a baseball. Looks like a softball to me, but I am no expert on 19th century balls. What makes you say it is definetly 19th century?

Is it constructed like a lemon peel ball, or is it two pieces? I can't tell from the pictures.

Search "antique softball" in ebay. There are a bunch with what looks like a similar stitch pattern. I may be mistaken, but I think it's an early softball (could even be 19th century softball), but I don't think it falls in the realm of a "lemon-peel" baseball.

that form of stitching is called concealed lace. Very common with indoor baseballs and softballs. Looks quite old
