the OP point was whatever the BP is with the AH, it could of gone in theory straight into the consignor pocket if no AH was in play....IF he can find a direct sale...if you you cant...saving 20% of 0 is still making zero..

Not sure I completely agree. Your theory might be right, BUT in your direct sale scenario, there is ONE "bidder". At a top-tier auction, there would most likely be several people with deep pockets pushing each other up, very possibly to a level beyond what a private sale would've achieved.

in addition, when the seller quotes a price and says 'if not sell will send it to an auction' and still receives no takers...its probably an indication that hes asking more than market price if the potential buyers would rather bid at an auction of the card with competition then a direct sale.
