That was quick. I was hoping it would go a little longer.

Just curious, how did you track it down so fast? What led you to that game?

The Ballantine sign was the first clue and the Yankee line-up was self-evident. Was led to the Tigers by #14, Pitcher whom I thought was Bunning but the Old Timers Day message on Saturday, August 8th made the season 1964 by which point Bunning was with the Phillies. But I saw via the uniform roster at Baseball Almanac that Wickersham took the same number and was a pitcher, so it was off to RetroSheet to see when he pitched against the Yanks and thence it all fell into place except for the part about me needing to get a life.

After Yankee Stadium was a given I keyed on the catchers. I found #32 was Elston Howard and then looked at his Yankee years to get a time frame. It was then pretty easy to find Freehan as how many catchers hit cleanup? I worked my way back from 67 looking at Tigers @ Yankess boxscores (pretty easy to do on Baseball-Almanac). Eventually got to the low scoring '64 game

I wonder if I stayed for the entire 11 innings. Back in the day my Dad worked for an accounting company that had some big name clients. He always brought home first row tickets. Can't remember the last time I sat in the lower level.

During this particular game, my Dad & his friend sat about 5 rows behind me. He decided to go the bathroom and a foul ball landed in his seat. Of course, someone else grabbed it. I am 63 years old now and I have never caught a ball.

Actually I have too much of a life. My days are filled with chores and obligations and jumping through bureaucratic hoops. I am retired but you wouldn't know it. Wish I had more time for the hobby. It was a very pleasant diversion to research Howard's mystery ballgame as it took me back to those carefree days of yesteryear when I was a young baseball fan in that great Cathedral in the Bronx.
