Default Three degrees of scarcity regarding the tough AB 460 cards

The printing of the very scarce AMERICAN BEAUTY 460 cards appears to breakdown into 3 levels of scarcity.

1st......and easiest to find, the "Exclusive 12" are certainly more available than any of the other 62 subjects
with AB 460 backs. I believe these 12 subjects were printed on a sheet separate from the other AB 460's.

Crandall (cap)
Devore
Duffy
Ford
Gandil
Geyer
Hummel
McGraw (glove at hip)
Pfeffer
Sheckard (glove)
Tannehill (Chicago)
Wheat

2nd......and considerably tougher than the Exclusive 12 are the following 38 subjects......

Bell (pitching)
Berger
Bescher (arms above)
Bradley (bat)
Bridwell (portrait-cap)
Burch (fielding)
Camnitz (arms at side)
Chance (bat)
Chase (trophy)
Cobb (bat off)
Conroy (bat)
Crawford (bat)
Herzog (Boston)
Howell (hands at waist)
Jennings (two hands)
Jordan (bat)
Lake (with ball)
Lake (no ball)
Latham
Leach (cap)
Leifield (bat)
Manning (pitching)
Marquard (follow thru)
Merkle (throwing)
Mullin (bat)
Needham
Overall (blue sky)
Pfeister (throwing)
Schaefer (Washington)
Schulte (back view)
Schlei (portrait)
Schlei (bat)
Seymour (portrait)
F. Smith (Chicago & Boston)
Tinker (bat on)
Wagner (bat on right)
Doc White (pitching)
Willetts

3rd......and the most difficult of all of these 74 - AB 460 cards are these 24 subjects......

Abbaticcio (blue sleeves)
Ball (Cleveland)
Bergen (catching)
Camnitz (hands over head)
Doyle (portrait)
Frill
Jennings (one hand)
Lajoie (bat)
McGraw (portrait-cap)
McQuillan (bat)
Meyers (portrait)
Murray (portrait)
Oldring (bat)
Overall (yellow sky)
Payne
Pelty (vertical)
H. Smith (Brooklyn)
Steinfeldt (bat)
Stovall (bat)
Tinker (bat off)
Wilhelm (bat)
Willis (bat)
Wiltse (pitching)
Wiltse (portrait-cap)

I've listed these 3 levels of scarcity of the AB 460 cards based on my experience collecting this T206 sub-set
during the past 8 years. Furthermore, this list factors into account other collectors want-lists of AB 460 cards.

Show and/or tell us of your experiences collecting these tough AB 460 backs.

Ted -- my two AB 460s include one from your second group (Mullin bat) and one from your third group (Overall yellow sky). As usual, great stuff.

Default Hi David

Nice looking cards......especially the Overall.

The Overall is a very tough AB 460 card.

Your experience collecting these AB 460 cards is typical.

The majority of the AB 460 cards are considerably tougher than what they are ranked in the "T206resource" site.
However, the considerably more available Exclusive 12 subjects with AB 460 backs significantly skew the AB 460
ranking lower than it actually should be.

Research indicates that 60 of these subjects with the AB 460 back should rank as high as the red HINDU cards.

Hi Ted,

I have a question for you. In post 20 in this thread:

http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?p=1448952

you gave a list of subjects with fewer than 4 known examples in AB 460. Of that short list, Conroy, Manning, Pelty, and Willis are not listed in the most difficult group, group 3, in this thread. Was this an oversight or is there something about these four that should make them easier than the others with fewer than 4 known examples?

Thanks

Default Hi Bryan

Since I posted that prior list....

Conroy
Manning
McQuilllan
Overall
Pelty
Steinfeldt
Wagner
Wilhelm
Willis
Wiltse

....further research indicates that Conroy, Manning, Pelty, and Wills are borderline candidates with 4 examples each.

For example Manning: Your card, my card, and I have recently seen two beat up cards of Manning/AB 460.

Thanks for the clarification Ted. I guess I will just have to buy and destroy the two beaters.
