I thought I was the only one that did any math on newer cards.
![]() Every once in a while I'll try to figure out print runs where there are serial numbered cards and the odds on the wrapper so I can see how interesting the inserts without serial numbers are. The Topps soccer cards surprise me, ending up at somewhere between 2000 and 4000 for each base card. And some of the retail only inserts will be sleepers if it ever happens that anyone cares. To your question about the value being so strong despite 100k copies of the card printed, the real value is in the high end PSA 9 and above cards. The cards are very condition sensitive and hard to find in very high grade. Raw cards and 8 or lower can be found for around $100 or less.
I don't know how many 86 Jordans were printed, but PSA has graded more than the 93 Jeter and that card is going up in value almost every day. Close to 5k now for a 9. And 1500 for an 8. Jeter is not as popular as Jordan, but he's still arguably the most popular baseball player from the same era and this is his best card. I'm surprised 8s don't sell for more.

I think Griffey Jr is slightly more popular than Jeter. He was certainly a much better player.

On another forum, someone else mentioned the production on 1993 SP was 7,200 cases which means there could be a good bit more than 100,000 SP Jeters. I'd be curious to know how many baseball card collectors there are out there. Aside from meeting people through collecting/buying/selling, I know a handful that used to collect years and years ago, but I don't know if I can come up with more than one name other than myself that collects!

I think there are a lot of collectors or hopeful investors who hoard these types of cards. I won't even venture a guess as to how many 89 Upper Deck Griffey's are out there, but PSA alone has graded more than 60,000. Over 2500 are graded 10, and those have went up in price from about 200 to 350 over the last couple of years. I have seen lots on ebay with 50, 100, or more of these for sale. Raw or graded.
Those are probably the two most iconic cards from the late 80s early 90s baseball era. Personally I think they will hold their value.
