I moved this from the BST section for T206s. It's probably better to discuss it here. thanks

Same dude who bought the Cobb for $16k. Apparently, unlimited funds and little regard for market pricing. But good news for holders of mid-grade Bakers, I guess.

So what's the thought on this one? That two guys are trying to manipulate the market for t206 Bakers? Or high grade t206s in general? I'm having trouble thinking of a legitimate reason to bid this card up to even 3k, let alone 6k.

Ebay hiding identities years ago made all of this worse.

Same exact card sold a year ago, for 806. Good return on investment.

Obviously nothing sketchy at all about the 18 bid retractions in the past six months and 86 percent bid activity with PWCC by the winning bidder.

The T206 Baker is the new 52T Mantle. They don't call him Home Run for nothing.

It looks like at least a couple of people agree with you. At that price it didn't sell for much less than a 51 Bowman Mantle in the same grade would go for.

I don't think we are worried about auctions that go for 5x the last sale amount..this is obvious a weird situation but I pretty sure no one on this forum will be bidding $2k on the same type of card in the future

I doubt PWCC had anything to do with this one. With the other auctions he had ending today I would be surprised if he was even paying much attention to the Baker other than noting what it closed at.

Default PWCC Response

Just wanted to quickly touch base on this thread.

This was absolutely one of the stranger results last night. The high bidder placed a virtually infinite high bid to ensure victory and then saw the bid run up to the staggering closing price, which is multiples above what was expected for the card.

The bid history looks very concerning with the under bidder driving the price incrementally as they did. Upon first glance it looks like a clear cut case of manipulation but then as the auction progressed the under bidder in question managed to win additional items using a similar bidding practice. These items have all been paid for as of this morning.

Even still,, we may cancel the auction and relist if the high bidder is uncomfortable with the circumstances.

I don't get that. You say the underbidder is legit. So why cancel the auction? There were two legitimate bidders. They both put in their bids. Highest one wins.

That the amount doesn't make sense to most of us is not a reason to cancel a fair auction.

Just my 2 cents.

+1 If a buyer posts a virtually infinite bid, he should anticipate such a result.

Perhaps you gave them (the cosigner) the infinite amount. Then the "under bidder" drove up the price that way ???

I think you need a time-out

Same guy that was insinuating, if not accusing, me of bad stuff too. I say we should always consider the source. When an idiot says something many times it is idiotic.

Why is his number of total posts relevant? He gave you his explanation of what happened. Believe him or don't, that's up to you. If nothing else I think it's nice he actually goes on forums to address controversial issues. I don't think an Auction House owner should be posting more than once in a while on a forum designed for collectors.

Brent,
Thank you for posting and addressing this thread. I can appreciate when an AH takes the time to address an issue in this forum, especially in a non-combative manner. It shows me that they care about their reputation and their customer (which are many on Net54).

I was very excited to win a card in the latest PWCC auction. I thought it went for an appropriate amount, especially considering I got it a little under my max bid. This is the third time I've won an auction from PWCC and the service has always been top notch. They immediately give me positive feedback upon payment, the card is shipped the following day and packaged securely. Lastly, I appreciate them advertising on Net54 which helps keep this forum relevant and thriving.

Thanks,
Jeff Rogoff
