I think he's done adequate penance, at this point. Let the punishment fit the crime. I would reinstate him.

I agree. He's not OJ Simpson. Or Hernandez from the Patriots. He deserves to be reinstated. People can make their own judgement.

I would put him in the Hall of Fame solely on the basis of two things he said. One, "I'd walk through hell in a gasoline suit to play baseball." Two, when asked why he was taking batting practice on a day off following a doubleheader in which he went 6 for 8, he said, "They got me out twice."

He is banned from baseball activity not the HOF according to the commissioner...
Later in that paragraph, Manfred concludes: The issue of whether Mr. Rose should be eligible for Hall of Fame election under the bylaws of that organization presents an entirely different policy determination that is focused on a range of considerations distinct from the more narrow question before me — i.e., whether I believe that Mr. Rose's reinstatement would be consonant with the policy rationale underlying Rule 21. Thus, any debate over Mr. Rose's eligibility for the Hall of Fame is one that must take place in a different forum. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-bi...183831192.html |

They could always change it. You never know.
That said, I'd let him in since there's no evidence he bet against the Reds. |

+1 big time, Hell, 26 years is enough punishment. Look at others in the Hall, some have very shaky backgrounds....

I fall on the side of it being the "baseball" hall of fame not the "personality and upstanding moral character" hall of fame.
To leave out the all time hits leader, home run record holders, arguably the best pitcher in history, and others in a misguided attempt to legislate character takes the credibility of this being a shrine to the "greatest to play the game" and rumples it like a ball of discarded paper into a trash bin. Do I like them all? Hell no. Should the best to play the game be in the hall of fame no matter what? Hell yes.

I understand it completely. The juicers and cheaters basically made a mockery of the records books and were paid handsomely all along the way for doing it. They knew it was wrong but they chose the fame, the money and all that comes with it. On top of that most all of them lied and denied it all the way. If they didn't think it was wrong, why deny it? They knew. Denying them entry is the only real tangible way of punishing them - that's how the writers look at it.
Pete broke the ONE rule that was guaranteed to get your ass in a life long crack, made a deal and then proceeded for decades to lie about it and basically conduct himself in an "in your face" manner toward MLB and he's getting the shaft? My patoot.

John McGraw... throw him out!
1905 - John McGraw, manager of the National League's New York Giants, wins $400 betting on his team to win the 1905 World Series. McGraw had held his team out of the 1904 Series against Boston because of a grudge against American League president Ban Johnson, who had suspended and publicly ripped McGraw for his boorish on-field behavior during McGraw's tenure as an American League manager, but he agreed to take on Connie Mack's Philadelphia A's following the '05 season. Led by Christy Mathewson's three shutouts (thrown in a span of six days), the Giants beat the A's in five games and McGraw got his money and his revenge on Johnson. The winnings were known to the public, and would have gotten McGraw banned from baseball in a later day. |

I see that Pete Rose is to be inducted into the Reds Hall Of Fame and they are retiring his number 14. I see they are also erecting a statue in his honor at the park. Finlay Pete gets this well deserved recognition. It's not Cooperstown but it's the crack in the door that surely should swing open for him sooner or later. I just hope it's in his lifetime so that he can enjoy his greatest tribute.
