Soak out Cigarette Smoke? (Or other tips?)

Oh my God, are we really going to get into this? Cards that smell like cigarette smoke?? Put the card in a different binder and move on...This is really silly, just when you think you've seen it all...

I purchased an old poster from France. Smelled smoke out of the package. Had smokey smell for years until I finally hid it by framing the poster. Good luck.

Dan- Your talking about cigarette smoke with raw cards 100 years old. Is it safe to assume their not gradable because of other issues that makes them only be raw? I'm not trying to be negative, sorry.....

It's a $30 card that would grade a 2. I like to keep my low-grade E cards raw in a binder, so I either buy them raw, or buy them graded and crack them out. I like the smell of the old cards, but this one just reeks, and I've never come across that before, so I was just looking to see if anyone had any suggestions about the smell. Obviously I could have it slabbed and keep the smell away, but there's no reason to do that. I'd just sell or trade it.

I didn't think it was a ridiculous question.

Soaking will help get rid of the smell. Putting it in a cedar box or between 2 pieces of cedar will work also. The cedar takes a long time but works really well. A friend that owned a used book store used to do it to get the nasty smell out of old books.

Not a ridiculous question, but it's probably not worthy of the fuss. Is the juice worth the squeeze?

Thanks Patrick! I tried to find an old thread before I posted, but not surprisingly, searching for "cigarette" on this board brought up almost every thread in existence.

storing with a fabric sheet and leaving it to air out in an open environment for a few days might do the trick.

It would only bother me if the card was able to outsell an SGC counterpart that smelled like roses. Then I would be super serious worried. But seriously, it's an interesting question. Your response is far more annoying. It's cool, we can still be friends though.
