Random question, is there any earthly idea how many '52 Topps cards were printed? I'm not talking about the rare high numbers, let's just say Series 1. Millions? Hundreds of thousands? Just thousands?

Ryan---here is some related info from Bob Lemke's wonderful Blog. I actually read the referenced FTC cases when trying to find out if Topps litigation actually halted the Fleer 1963 set at one series ( It did not, just poor sales)

Thanks Al, that doesn't seem like a whole heck of a lot of cards! 300 "Bartiromes" graded and 1200 Mantles, we know Mantle was a DP, so are there another 300 Bartiromes lurking out there? I'm being facecious using #332. No many Hugh numbers to be had at shows these days, and just about none raw. I'm hard pressed to think there are 300 of each guy sitting in attics and binders. People saved everything Mantle, so not surprising if more if his cards are were spared the garbage.

There are more red backs than blacks in the low series of every single player, say what you will about reds and blacks being equally as difficult to find. 900 red back pafkos topping the charts, with only 400 black backs.

1,000 yogi Berra's, are there many more out there raw?

I guess only time will tell the true story of the pop report as more cards are graded. I'd expect to see a decline in the lower grade cards submitted in the future as the juice just isn't worth the squeeze in most cases.

Default Cards

Revenues may not tell the whole story. I do not know if the card dump legend is really true but my guess would be there was a lot of unsold inventory that later made it into the hobby one way or another. Some is still showing up in Christmas rack packs

It does seem to be Christmas year round.

I'm waiting for a 1980 rack with 3 Henderson RCs on top!
