Hi all,
Kevin hit the nail on the head. No ad-backs in the first series. Ted added a twist with the Dool"an" ad-back. For quite some time, only the Dool"in" variation was known with the ad-back (Dool"an" had a checklist back). I found one several years ago (and have since found others) and it seems Ted found one too. I was also lucky enough to find a Tenney-NY with an ad-back a few years ago. This variation was also thought to only carry the checklist back (Tenney-NY & Bos had the ad-back). Notes on these are on my T3 website. One last twist. If you'll check the pop reports, you'll also notice several 2nd series cards where the ad-back is a true rarity - believe me, I've searched for years and most of them on the list are in my collection. They are Bell, Bender, Burns, Browne, Lennox, Sullivan and a few others. A Rhoades ad-back has yet to be found. Happy Collecting, Craig |

Here's an article that Buck Barker wrote for Card Collectors' Bulletin 50 years ago about ad backs vs. checklist backs in T3s. Too bad we don't have a time machine to show him this thread!
