He played for the Angels and Yankees for the remainder of the 1977 season. That tells me that the "1977" set was printed sometime between June 15 and September 6 of 1977 and was issued in the summer of 1977.
Sorry Cliff, but Phil is correct on this. That card was released to the public in 1978. MSA wasn't nearly as quick on the printing and distribution as Topps or others, not were they as worried about anomalies like team designations.. Remember that this set was a special one due to it's size and not a standard MSA disc. As a result it took longer to print them, then ship to Wiffle, then inserted into individual boxes, shipped out, then arriving in stores.

The die-cut discs were released in 1978. No doubt about it.

Default Checklist for the MSA discs.

Here is a link to the checklists for the MSA discs and the different backs. For the discs from the late 70's Mr. Lemke's price guide has a comprehensive list.

Hmmm, so if the set with the discs printed on the boxes and sleeves came out in 1979, then they were waaaaaay off on Jose Cardenal. He was traded by the Cubs to the Phillies in October 1977, but he is listed as a Cub on the box.

All I can tell you is that I talked direct to Wiffle and the son of the inventor is now running the place. He sent me a copy of the 1978 and 1979 advertising sheets and these were the only two years that they offered discs. There is no question about this anymore.

Send me your email and I will send you a copy if you like.

Lemke was also very wrong on the 2nd set (we now know as 1979) which were printed on the boxes. He said in the Std CAtalog that there were 88 cards on the boxes. There were only 12 boxes with 5 cards each so that's 60 cards in the set. The other 28 were on what they called "header sleeves" that had 2 players on each panel and were folded right through the discs. These are blank backed and I consider them a separate set. There are several of those up for sale on EBay right now.

The 1979 boxes have "88 Stars" printed on them, so apparently Wiffle considered the twelve different boxes and the fourteen different bat and ball sleeves as all part of the same complete set.

Geez, I feel like I am being lectured about Climate Change. I will submit and never again have questions or doubts about the release dates of Wiffle Discs. In my opinion, in the year 2016, it's pretty much semantics (if that's the right word) if they were released in the middle of 1977 or early 1978. I believe it's more important to go by the time frame that the teams that they are listed with on the discs which tells me when the discs were originally mocked up. No one can tell me otherwise that the set wasn't based on who the player was playing for in July/August 1977. They were released in 1978. I wave the white flag.

I recently had my 1975 MSA Test Disc Tom Seaver graded. It received a PSA 5 grade. It's the first one ever graded. Does anyone have an idea on the value of it? I picked it up raw about a year ago for $100.

Sorry to dredge this up from the past, but I sent you a message about this card...
