I prefer never to use screw downs, too many cards have been damaged that way. The one touch method is fine

I virtually always cut a mat for my screw down, which actually can make them look awesome while providing a nesting place for the card.

Do you have an example of this?

I do it as well. I use black archival paper and measure and cut with an exacto knife. Here is one I did of my Red Heart Stan Musial.

I've always put my cards into a penny sleeve and into a screw down. I heard too many horror stories about people taking apart the screw down and part of the card going each way and tearing either the front or back apart.
So, I use penny sleeves and have never had a problem. Even in the smaller 1-screw screw downs, I do the same method. Hope this helps. |

Putting them in sleeves is also a great idea if there is any free space around the card. I had 2 of my most valuable cards in those non recessed cubes for over 25 yrs, but I ensured I didn't screw them down tight back then and I also laid them on their sides rather than flat to help keep the weight off of them. They have now been removed (since joining Net54) and reside in top loaders with sleeves.

How does it damage the card? Very curious about that...

![]() If the card is placed too tightly into the screw down holder, then when it is time for the card to come out -- it "sticks" to the surface so to speak and is ruined for future use. That is why you see less and less screw downs as the years went on
