Well, it only shows to go, that even those who get these jobs/positions at some point in their careers, doesn't necessarily mean it was based on what they knew/know but rather based on some other means.

But in Canada, it was always called a sweater� Americans used jerseys when they were playing football; then, when they finally got around to playing hockey, they used the same name. The NHL sweaters / jerseys from the '30s and '40s I've seen and had a chance to touch really were thin sweaters. It's always a thrill to see them in person.

Very true! Its key to note for vintage hockey garments... If it's constructed of wool, its a sweater.... If its a more modern material like durene... It's a jersey.
